Oregon to California Costal Road Trip

We recently made the drive from Portland, OR to Sacramento, CA. We’ve done this drive a few times before and like to take the coastal route whenever possible! The southern coast of Oregon and northern coast of California are absolutely breathtaking. We could probably count on two hands the number of people we saw the entire duration of our 4 day road trip. I hope you all get a chance to witness this coastline’s quiet, untouched beauty at some point! Today I’m going to share a few of our favorite stops along the way. Including sights to see, stores to stock up on healthy eats and places to fill/dump water tanks. I will say, one of the best parts about this is the drive itself! You’ll probably find yourself wanting to pull over to check out the views every few miles. As always, it’s important to remember to leave these spots looking pristine so the people after us can enjoy them too. We are so excited to partner with L.L.Bean on this post. Their mission is to encourage spending more time outdoors with their comfortable, durable and ultra functional gear. They have some REALLY cute stuff too (as you’ll see in this post.)

Florence Dunes

This was the first stop on our road trip. We love finding big dog friendly beaches with sand dunes that we can run around on to burn off some energy before a long stretch of driving. This beach did not disappoint. The view from the top of the dunes is beautiful and the beach was empty. The perfect place to play some ball!

This Mulit-Color Anorak Jacket is my absolute favorite. It’s perfect for layering over a cozy thermal long sleeve and the huge pockets are excellent for carrying all of Tonkins’ supplies when we go out on big adventures!

Humbug Mountain State Park

Free dump station and water fill with hiking trails near by. There is also a campground here with showers available for $2!

Arizona Beach State Recreation Site

We always stop at Arizona Beach! This is a super quiet State Recreation area with picnic tables, big grass fields, bathrooms and water available to fill your tank if needed. You can drive all the way back to access beach front parking, but we always opt to park in the front where the picnic tables are. This is a great place to stop, make lunch and do some yoga!

Eureka Natural Foods

This is usually our first stop when we arrive in California! The store is huge and stocked with all of our favorite food brands!

Bruhel Point

After a super long drive we arrived to this overnight spot pretty late in the evening. It is a flat parking lot right off of the highway. When we woke up we took a walk down the trail to the water to discover some beautiful coastal views!

Jug Handle State Natural Reserve

This spot holds a very special place in our hearts, it’s where we got engaged! There are a couple different trails you can take and the views are breathtaking. A really nice place to go for a peaceful walk.

Mendocino

Mendocino is a dreamy little town. We like to park and go for a walk through the neighborhoods and look at all of the cute houses. We always stop at the local health food store Corners Of The Mouth to stock up on any groceries we might need. We always grab a loaf of their locally made sourdough bread. If you don’t feel like cooking you can stop in to Good Life Cafe for some delicious house made organic comfort food.

Point Arena Lighthouse

We love stoping at Point Arena Lighthouse to admire the scenery, make dinner and watch the sun go down.
